On Sunday 3rd September myself (John Hyde) along with husband and wife Noele and Irene Christon completed our two week walk of the 184 miles of the Thames Path carrying “George”, our dummy Soldier on a stretcher. We were assisted for the first three days by members of 156 Provost Company Royal Military Police, (Ben’s Company) from Colchester. They not only carried the stretcher, but also provided transport which was a great help.
On the day we walked from Hampton Court to Kew we were joined by two friends of Ben, Phil and Corrine, also James Haigh who trained with Ben, Ben was also part of the Honour Guard at James wedding.
The weather was mainly kind to us, although it did get a bit too hot towards the end
During the course of the “Walk” we collected £1,540 in our bucket, with sponsorship and donations through Justgiving and Paypal we expect the final total raised to be over £4,000, so a good effort.
The trustees would like to express their thanks to all who contributed to the success of the “Walk” financially or physically.
The photo below shows us at the source of the River Thames, just a few pebbles in a hollow in the middle of a field.
Take care,
John
